  “I’m glad you like it.”

And once again, just like that, the comfortable feeling I have being around Corey comes flooding back. Things seem so effortless when he’s around…just like they did when Alex was here. I try not to let the sadness of thinking about Alex overtake me. Even though the realization that this will be the first Christmas I spend without him hits me as I look at the man sitting across from me.

  Corey

The snow doesn’t seem to want to stop. I’m sitting in the den with my laptop, trying to catch up on all the work I didn’t do yesterday while I was enamored with helping Brayden. After I helped him check the wires on the thermostat and showed him how to use the manual to determine where the various wires should go, it was apparent that one of the wires for the heating unit didn’t get moved. Once we had it placed in the right spot, the heat came on and began warming the house.

I’m still surprised that he didn’t have the heat on at all when I arrived yesterday since it was warm when I came in. I guess the house is well insulated. But I could definitely feel the cold that moved in overnight when I woke. Now that I’m just staring out the window watching the snowfall, I’m wondering if all the preparations from yesterday were for naught. It’s just after noon, and the skies don’t look like they will let up their downflow of flurries.

My phone buzzes at my side, and I notice it’s Misty calling as I pick it up. “Hey, Misty.”

  “Corey, are you okay?”

“Yeah. We’re fine. Besides the pile of snow building on the drives, we’re good.”

“Good. I’m glad to hear that.” Misty clears her throat, so I know this isn’t going to be good. “I just got a call from the caterer, and they said the roads are no better in Stanford. They won’t be able to get out to the inn today.”

“I was afraid of that. I’m assuming that means you all won’t be able to get here either.”

“No, it doesn’t look that way. With all the partner’s flying in having their trips cancelled and the sun not even making an appearance today, it looks like this weekend is going to be a bust. I’m just sorry you’re stuck there.”

  “It’s no problem, really.”

“I’ll call the owner and let him know that we need to cancel. I hope this doesn’t put him out too much.”

“I can take care of that. He’s a pretty good guy and very understanding. We shouldn’t have a problem.”

“Good. Please let him know that we will rebook with him for January and just delay the holiday gathering. Hopefully he’ll have an opening for us.”

“I’ll ask him and see if he has anything available and let you know.” Based on the information Brayden shared with me yesterday, he doesn’t have anything booked, but I don’t think it’s important to share at this point.

“Thanks, Corey. You’re really going above and beyond. I know the partners all appreciate it and will consider everything you’ve done as we make our final decisions.”

I smile, realizing this weekend may not have been a total waste after all. Despite the fact that the event is being cancelled, my willingness to come has done exactly what I wanted it to…show that I can do what’s needed to help the company. “I appreciate that, Misty. Please reach out if you hear anything new. Hopefully, this will all let up today and I can make it home before the weekend is over.”

“Just keep me updated. Stay warm.” With that, Misty disconnects the call, and I set my phone on the cushion beside me. I set my laptop on the table between the sofas and go find Brayden to pass along the bad news.

He’s in the kitchen, hanging up his cell when I walk in. “Well, that was the caterer. The city doesn’t have the roads cleared my way, so they aren’t going to be able to make it.”

“I just got off the phone with my boss too. Looks like we’re having to cancel the whole weekend.”

He becomes sullen, frowning as he sets his phone down on the island. “I’m sorry this happened. I guess the snow ruined your perfect weekend and wasted your time.”

“Hey, no need to fret. You don’t control the weather.” I smile at him. “There’s no way you could have known this would happen. But my boss asked me to tell you that we still want to use your place next month if it’s any consolation.”

“Of course. Just let me know the weekend.” He looks around the kitchen before meeting my gaze. “Well, I’m sorry you’re stuck here until they can get the roads cleared. Hopefully, you can get home tomorrow. I’m sure you’re anxious to get back now that the party is cancelled.”

“There are worse places I can think of being stuck. Besides, the company isn’t too bad.” I give him a wink, realizing that I’m constantly flirting with him even when I know I shouldn’t be. I’m not like this with anyone else, so I’m not certain what kind of spell this omega has placed on me, but it’s chipping away at my resolve more and more each minute.

“I finished the clothes up. Would you like me to just place yours on your bed?”

“That would be great,” I say. “I’ll just be in the living room working for a bit.”

“Okay.” He looks around again and then up at the ceiling in contemplation. “I’m sure I can find us something to eat tonight. Maybe a stew?”

“If you keep feeding me like this, you’re going to make me lose my figure.” I rub a hand over my stomach.

Brayden laughs. “I’m sure that’s not possible. With that body, you must work out every day.” A crimson hue covers his cheeks as he looks away from me with a bashful smile.

A low growl escapes my throat, and I’m not certain Brayden hears it. Before I get myself into any more trouble, I head to the den and back to my laptop, trying to focus on the work I need to do. The afternoon is filled with charts and graphs while I prepare presentations for client meetings and research current stock trends.

It’s not until the lights across the mantel and on the tree come on that I realize how late it’s become. I shut my laptop and lay it down before standing to stretch. A delicious aroma hits my nose as I walk through the foyer and toward the kitchen where Brayden is cooking something.

“Hey,” I say, walking into the room and trying not to startle him.

  “Hi. It’s almost ready.”

“I swear, you’re spoiling me here. I haven’t had this many home cooked meals in… Well, I can’t remember when.”

Brayden turns the burner off and turns to me. “It just needs to cool, and we’ll be‑”

He doesn’t finish his sentence before the entire house is covered in darkness. Only the bit of light remaining outside that comes through the windows provides any illumination. “Uh-oh.”

“Just great.” Brayden’s frustration is evident, and I feel his pain as everything seems to be getting worse for him.

“At least we’ll have a hot supper.” I know he can’t see my grin, but I hope he understands my attempt of making sure he knows that he isn’t to blame.

“I suppose. But I wouldn’t be so sure that we’ll have the power back on tonight.”

“Good thing we have all that wood to start a fire,” I say. “I’ll get one started while you serve up some of that delicious stew. Maybe we could eat around the fire?”

Even though I can’t really see him, I hear the smile in his voice. “Yeah… We can do that. I’ll light some candles for us.”

The two of us set to work, using the flashlights on our phones to navigate around the house. I start a large fire burning, the flames burning hot just like I thought they would. Brayden sets out several candles as well as a lantern to help provide a little more light as we eat dinner. The conversation stays light as we eat, and I’m thankful now for all the firewood we’ve prepared. Because once we finish dinner, I move several loads into the house to have us ready for the remainder of the evening and the air outside is absolutely freezing.

Without the fire, I’m sure the house would become fairly cold on the inside as well. Brayden disappears for several minutes before coming back into the den. “I
t’s freezing upstairs already. At least its toasty down here.”

“Maybe we should sleep down here then tonight.”

“Here? Together?” Brayden becomes nervous as he looks at the two sofas. “I mean, I guess we could each take a couch. But if you want to sleep in the privacy of your room, I can pull out extra blankets.”

“Down here is fine with me… Unless, that’s not okay. I don’t want to make you uncomfortable.”

“You don’t… I just hate for you to be inconvenienced. This whole weekend has turned into a mess.”

“It hasn’t, I swear.” Instinctively I walk toward him, grasping his elbow in my hand, wishing I could pull him closer and comfort the pain I know he’s experiencing.

But it’s Brayden who moves into me, tears beginning to fall down his face. I stand with him leaned into my chest for a moment before finally wrapping my arm around him. “It’s going to be okay.”

He continues to sob softly with his face resting against me. I move the both of us to one of the sofas and guide him to a seated position next to me. “I’m sorry,” he says, trying to wipe away the tears and hide them from me. His eyes flicker from the backdrop of the fire nearby, but it doesn’t mask the pain in his eyes.

“You don’t have to be sorry… I should be the one apologizing.”

“You?” He looks at me with a slightly startled expression. “Why should you apologize? I’m the one who has made a fool of myself. I knew I wasn’t ready. I should have just cancelled this weekend when your boss called to confirm last week. Trying to do this without Alex here is impossible.”

“His name is Alex…” Rage begins burning under my skin as my blood races through me. The devastation that this poor omega is reeling from is evident, and if the guy was standing before me, I’d beat him down for treating his omega this way.

“Yeah, my mate. I mean, I guess I still call him that. I don’t know if that’s still true anymore.”

“I’m so sorry he’s done this to you. You don’t deserve it.”

“Thanks, but it wasn’t his fault.”

I stand up, unable to control myself. I can’t listen to Brayden let this jackass go free and not take the blame. “How could it not be. He shouldn’t have left you. I swear…” I begin pacing, my fists curling at my sides. “If you were mine, I’d never let you go. The fact that this Alex guy thinks it’s okay to just up and leave you is absolutely unforgiveable.”

  “Left me?”

I turn to Brayden, studying his face in the firelight. “Yeah, I mean. I’m sorry, but come on… You’re absolutely gorgeous. Any alpha would be proud to have you by his side. The fact that this asshat just left you.” I walk slowly back toward him. “It’s just not right.”

“I think there’s been some confusion.” Brayden motions for me to sit next to him. “Alex didn’t leave me in a lurch by just taking off… He was killed in an automobile accident last summer during the festival.”

  Brayden

The mixture of shock and maybe a bit of relief crosses Corey’s face in the dim light of the fire burning. He is a loss for words for several minutes before he stands up again and begins pacing the room. “Wait… You’re not. I’m so confused, and now I know that I’m the one who owes you an apology.”

“You thought I’d been abandoned?” The last twenty-four hours replay in my mind as some of the flirting followed by his holding back make more sense.

“Your scent is clear. I can tell you’ve been claimed.”

I look at him with slight confusion. “You scented me?”

Corey stops in his tracks, pausing in front of the fireplace and turning toward me. He runs a hand through his hair, the dark waves flowing through his fingers. “Yeah. When we first met. I mean, you’re attractive and…”

It’s my turn to blush. “You feel the chemistry between us too then.” I stand to move closer to him and the fire.

“Yeah, but when I could sense your mate’s underlying smell, I didn’t want to do anything that would jeopardize you.”

  “And last night?”

“I wanted you so bad,” he admits quickly. “I still do.”

I gaze into his eyes, searching them as a blaze begins to burn between us. “Well, I was mated. But now I’m free to experience life as I want to.”

Corey pulls me into his arms, placing his lips against mine and kissing me firmly. His mouth is soft against mine, opening slightly as he pushes the kiss even further. My head spins from the passion that burns between us. It’s been something I’ve been wanting to experience since the moment I met him, even if I didn’t immediately admit it to myself.

And my body has been craving another man’s touch for so long. Not that I’ve forgotten how it was when Alex and I were together. But having Corey here, his strong arms wrapped around me as he kisses me with such fever, has me flooding my pants as my body reacts to his strong, gentle touch.

Corey’s mouth opens further, and I follow suit, allowing him access beyond my lips. His tongue explores me, licking and tasting every bit of me that he can. I don’t deny him anything as we continue to kiss. His hands explore my body, grasping my back and then my ass, causing me to whimper with desire.

When he breaks our kiss, it’s only so that he can trail his lips across my chin and up to my ear. He sucks my lobe into his mouth, nipping at me and licking until I’m squirming with pleasure. His hands make their way to my shirt, undoing the first few buttons before he tugs the hem and lifts it over me.

Standing shirtless in front of him for the first time, he appraises my body, his eyes roving from my chest and stomach back to my face. Then he leans in and places his lips on my neck, where he picks back up licking and sucking on my flesh. I gasp when he nips the skin above my clavicle, instinctively reaching around and clutching his back.

His strong muscles flex under my touch, exciting me even more and driving my need to feel his naked flesh with my own hands. Before he can move his lips to my chest, I begin toying with his shirt, hinting that I want him to expose the sexy, smooth chest I’d seen yesterday. My cock thickens as he obliges, a large grin plastered across his face as he removes his shirt.

I reach out carefully to touch his chest, scared that this is all a dream and that one wrong move will make everything vanish. But as I place a hand on his pec and knead the firm muscle with my hand, I know that the euphoria I’m experiencing is real. It’s just that my dream has come true.

I’d only allowed myself to fantasize about being with Corey briefly, having seen him without his shirt causing my mind to create a situation where the two of us might be together for a moment. But the true experience we’re having is much more than any imaginary story I could put together in my mind.

He leans in again, this time placing his lips above my nipple and lightly encircling it with his tongue. My hands have a mind of their own as I explore the firmness of his body. Pushing against his rock-hard abs and feeling his muscular arms as he licks my skin only causes my desire to increase. Another flood of liquid seeps from my hole, drenching my underwear in slick lubrication as my body prepares to take his cock.

I trail my fingers down his stomach, strumming them along the peaks and valleys of his abs before dipping my fingers behind his waistband. Corey’s breath hitches, and he stands upright, giving me free rein to unbutton his pants and pull down the zipper. My eyes widen at the sight I’m met with when I pull down his jeans. His underwear is stretched to the max by the girth pushing against it.

Pulling at the band of his briefs, I expose his thick shaft, which stands at attention once it’s released from its prison. His cock is glorious, a thick eight inches of veins and flesh just begging to be played with. I drop to my knees quickly then move my head closer to his cock. His alpha musk fills my nostrils, making me salivate to taste his offering.

I start with his balls, licking the skin hanging beneath his cock and sucking each ball gently into my mouth. Corey growls lightly as I move my tongue in a swirling motion
around his sack. Then I move upward, licking up a vein of his cock until I reach the crown. I twirl my tongue around the head, making certain to capture the precome weeping from his slit. He tastes better than I could have imagined, and it makes me want to swallow his load right then and there.

Opening my mouth as wide as possible, I take in the first inch of his cock, continuing to swirl my tongue around the head before plunging farther down. His thickness is almost too much, but I try to keep myself from gagging as I push another inch inside me. I’m lightheaded from the excitement of blowing him as I begin moving back and forth on his cock. I glance upward as I pull back, noticing Corey has his fingers interlocked behind his head as he thrusts forward into my mouth. The fine lines of muscles on his lean torso excite me to no end as I plunge back down on his cock again, forcing myself to take even more of his inches into my throat.

While letting him take my mouth, I move my hand to release the pressure building in my pants. I’m not nearly as big as Corey, but my cock is thick and begging to escape its confines. Once I begin stroking, I follow the same rhythm the two of us have set as Corey fucks my mouth. Saliva drips from his shaft as I move back and forth on his cock, letting him push it further and further into me with each thrust.

“Fuck, I’m going to come.” The words barely come from Corey’s mouth before the first splash of his sperm hits the back of my throat. It catches me by surprise, but I only gag for a second, pulling back as my mouth fills with his seed. I try to swallow each drop as quickly as possible, but it comes too fast and begins spilling from the corner of my lips.

I’m still stroking my cock as Corey pulls his cock away. Surprisingly, he drops to his knees in front of me and takes my mouth with his, licking the seed at the corners of my lips and partaking in the offering his body shared. He pushes my hand aside, taking over as he rubs my cock within his firm grip. Then he stands me up and pushes my pants to the ground, leaving me exposed and hard in front of him.
